Second Accident on Barnsley Road Within 3 Days

At approx 4pm yesterday, Tuesday 3rd of July. A man was knocked down by a 4x4 car whilst crossing Barnsley Road.

The accident happened next to the bus stop on Barnsley Road/Orphanage Road, close to Firs Hill Primary School. The man was said to have departed from the No. 75 double-decker bus, and tried crossing the road behind said bus and another double-decker bus, No.88.

As he crossed the road, a 4x4 car overtaking the two buses did not see the man and he was hit.
A witness aboard the No. 88 bus saw the incident.
"I was sat on the top deck of the No.88 next to the road side windows when we pulled up to the bus stop behind another bus. I saw a white man in his late twenties, early thirties, walk out from between the two buses. He was about half way across the road when a dark red 4x4 overtaking the buses, tried to swerve but hit the man in the side. He was knocked about 3 foot into the air and landed on his face.
The driver was a white woman of around late 30's early 40's.
The event really shook me up and I thought the man was dead. The Police arrived within seconds and cordoned off the road and took witness statements.
The Police later told me that the man had been taken to hospital and was in a serious condition".
